Embracing Sustainability

At The Natural Wood Company, our ethos very much revolves around a profound respect for nature and our environment. We take immense pride in crafting our gorgeous products from only the finest materials in the world.

The choice of materials we use is a direct reflection of our values. We believe in supporting local companies wherever possible, always trying to reduce the road and air miles our materials have to travel, and thus minimizing our carbon footprint. The Oak for our doorstops, for example, is the best quality hand-picked English Oak from a choice of two local sawmills.

Then, for our more intricate pieces, we turn to a choice of:

  • Oak – Either air or kiln-dried prime English Oak, from a local English mill or European Super-prime Oak from a small father and son company in Italy. Renowned for its exceptional quality and durability, the super prime quality Oak we select allows us to create products that are not only stunning, but also built to last, the quality seen in our Christmas trees
  • Walnut - Although not widely available, English Walnut is considered one of the most beautiful timbers. Often used for high-class furniture and gun stocks, the dark chocolaty colouring and deep lustre of this wood make it a prized timber for prestigious applications. Native English Walnut is considered the best in the world, good specimens are always hard to come by as they are not grown commercially in this country and availability is generally limited to individual windblown trees from private gardens or estates.
  • Ash - Prized for its beautiful golden blonde appearance, toughness, and flexibility. Ash is the ideal wood for fitted and freestanding furniture. A native English species, which has been used for centuries in traditional furniture making and in more specialist applications such as sports equipment and car chassis. Traditionally, it was used in the manufacture of Windsor chairs, and its straight grain and flexibility make it an ideal material for any steam-bent components. All Ash used at The Natural Wood Company is sourced from local English woodlands.
  • Cherry - Cherry is one of the few fruit woods commercially used in the UK for both furniture and joinery. The natural, warm lustre and attractive grain of English cherry set it apart as one of the most luxurious species from our native forests; we often use it in our one-off chopping boards and handmade turned salt and pepper mills.

All the timber we use is FSC-certified. By choosing sustainable wood, we're not only preserving forests for future generations but also supporting communities and promoting responsible forestry practices. When you choose a product from The Natural Wood Company, you're not just purchasing an item; you're investing in a greener, more sustainable future. Every doorstop, bird feeder, Christmas tree, and chopping board is a testament to our dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and environmental stewardship. Join us in our mission to make the world a better place, one sustainable product at a time. Choose The Natural Wood Company for beautifully crafted, environmentally friendly wood products that you can feel good about.
