My name is Steve, and I'm the owner of The Natural Wood Company.
What seems like far too many years ago now, I studied Art and Design Technology at Southampton, specialising in product design. That combined with a very curious nature, a lifelong love affair with how "things" work, engineering, Wood turning and all things Carpentry.
The year before The Natural Wood Company was born, in an effort to find unique Birthday and Christmas gifts for our friends and family, I designed our applecore Bird feeders. The bird feeders soon became so popular; I was selling them online and shipping them to customers all over the world.
The following year I was asked by a friend of mine, "could you make me a wooden Christmas tree", as she was allergic to real Christmas trees and really didn't want a plastic tree.
I designed and made her a Christmas tree in Oak, it was around 3ft tall and after a few attempts to get it all just right, it was done. My friend and her family were delighted, it was lovely to see the smiling faces in the photo's she sent me that Christmas. It was only then, as I was looking at the pictures of her family around the tree, that I realised it could be a very popular product. I then set about redesigning the tree I’d made for her into a product that could be manufactured, whilst ensuring all the materials used in production and packing were sustainable, recyclable and planet friendly.
